Encore un autre logiciel-compagnon qui pourrait aider la navigation
langagière.

Une application surprenante qui intègre des fonctions de navigations
souvent utiles aux langagiers, c'est-à-dire la consultation parallèle
des dictionnaires et des moteurs de recherche. Un simple double-clic
sur un mot dans le navigateur active la recherche dans la fenêtre
satellite LookWAYUp et permet de l'affiner dans des ouvrages
terminologiques ou sinon dans l'Internet. Il est étonnant aussi de
lire (voir plus bas) que ce type d'application est sensible au
contexte d'utilisation des termes.

phrase, search it on the page or the whole Web using your favorite

How does it work?

Double click on any word on the page where it is activated.
Information box pops up right on the page: no need to go to a search
engine or any other page.

Information box contains:

&#10063; Extended search tools

If you have a cell phone with a microbrowser or another WAP (Wireless
Application Protocol) device, point it to wap.lookwayup.com . Note:
this URL won't work with a regular browser.

LookWAYUp uses your favourite search engine. You can just pick
AltaVista, Google, GoTo, or Lycos/HotBot. LookWAYUp creates a query
with one click that is probably right on the mark. You can search
just the site that you're on even if the site doesn't have a search
feature. You can also search the entire Web. LookWAYup's search is
contextual. It doesn't just look up a word, it looks it up in the
context in which it is being used on the page that you'e reading.

For example, search Altavista for the term "Diet" Click here to do
this You will find mostly weight loss diets. When you are on the
Wellness web "Heart Disease and Diet" page, double-click the
word "diet" then press "Search the Web". and you will find pages
about nutrition, particularly in the context of heart disease.

Dictionary and search engines work together

While on the "Aneurysms" page, double-click on the
term "propranolol". Pressing on "More..." will find the trade
name "Inderal" and the terms "beta blocker" and beta-adrenergic
blocking agent". Pressing "Extended Search" will add these terms to
the search and look this up on the web, even if the original term is
not there.

You can open a LookWAYup window from your desktop. Drag this link to
your desktop: LookWAYup To assign a keystroke to it, right-click on
the icon you just created on your desktop, Select "Properties",
then "Web Document", and under "Shortcut Keys", type Ctrl-Alt-Up>>
